What does the ending of The Hate U Give say about these two opposing philosophies? The grocery is burnt, and 115 has not been indicted. Seven is on his way to an out-of-state prestigious university. Could go into more detail about Hailey and Maya and every other character, but that’s your job.
On the other hand, you may eventually decide that Angie Thomas makes another point altogether. My reading of this book is not the only possible reading. However, you need to remember, as I have explained in class, that every author is attempting to manipulate you and to have you see the world through his or her eyes. What you need to argue in this last essay is what point the author of The Hate U Give is trying to make.
But remember: I don’t want your opinion; I want to know what the book asks us to believe.
These are the requirements:
1. This essay is to be at least five pages.
2. Most importantly, I want you to cite incidents in the book (and quotes by the characters) in support of your answer.
3. You must use MLA formatting with respect to citations from the book and any other outside source.
4. Your essay must have a Works Cited Page.
5. As with all papers, use Times New Roman font, 12 point, double-spaced, and use 1” margins.
1. Does the essay have a point which is clearly stated?
2. Is there a preview of the arguments which you will make?
3. Does the paper flow logically, that is, do you make your argument in a logical, well-reasoned manner?
4. Are there transitions between points?
5. Do you explain how the incidents and quotations demonstrate your point? It is not enough to show an incident or to quote someone. You must show/explain how that incident or that quote demonstrates the point you are trying to make.
6. Is there a logical summary of the points you make and a conclusion?
7. Do you use good vocabulary, and is the punctuation, spelling, and usage correct?
