GL3901/3951 INDEPENDENT GEOLOGICAL FIELD MAPPING 2021
Determine and understand the geological history of an area based primarily on your own independent observations. The mapping project is intended to interpret field data, and evaluate your own independent work in a wider context of other studies of the geology, as well as current geological ideas.
It will
• Demonstrate skills of observation and most importantly, skills of recording scientific data.
• Apply the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier years of the undergraduate course in a practical way.
• Develop individual confidence and independence in making judgements, planning use of time, and reasoning.
• Present the results of the project in a professional manner. This includes remote sensing; a fair copy map with stratigraphic column; and structural cross–sections. It includes a final report which gives an illustrated account of the stratigraphy, structure and geological history of the area studied.
